Antifungal activity of new compounds from Nepeta leucophylla and Nepeta clarkei. Jyoti Saxena; C.S. Mathela.

Abstract: Iridodial beta-monoenol acetate produced by Nepeta leucophylla Benth and the terpene alkaloid produced by Nepeta clarkei Benth inhibit the activity of mycotoxin producing pathogenic fungi. Iridodial beta-monoenol acetate is most active against Aspergillus ochraceus and Sclerotium rolfsii. Actinidine of N. clarkei is most active against Macrophomina phaseolina. These compounds are better inhibitors than nystatin. However, they are effective only when there is no growth as the fungi form normal colonies after germination
